The Denver Post’s competition, The Rocky Mountain News, fell for a piece that came across the police wire today and posted a breaking news alert … without verifying their bit of “news” was true. Fail.
About
I'm Joe Murphy. I'm the senior web developer with the online news team at the Denver Post (and the thoughts I express here are my own). Before that I ran my own web design and development company, and a long time ago I was a fledgling newspaper reporter. I like me a good story.

Fact: Based on scanner reports, I have grabbed a video camera and jumped into a car with a reporter to head out to a pier, or beach, or other disaster area where a car or other large mobile piece of machinery has fallen into the ocean, only to find out it was a drill.
More than once.
